Here we go!

After 12 years in the classroom, I've made the plunge into adminstration.  In August, I start working with a progressive-ed, small school, that focuses on developing the whole-child.  I chose to take the plunge with this school because it's philosophy is very close to my philosophy of education and because it is a brand-new position.  During this time of year, I usually think about what I'm going to do next year in my classroom!  I now have to change my mindset to what I want to do in my new position and in my new school!

Over the past week or so (ever since I found out I got the job!) I've been reading and thinking a lot!  Before I start, I want to develop my goals as a principal. I came across Justin Tarte's Blog.  I love his ideas about posting his ten goals in his office to read every morning before starting his day.  This is a great way to be centered in the work that needs to be done and in the decisions that need to be made.

Over the next week or so, my goal is to articulate my goals for myself.  I welcome feedback and insight.  I know I want to have collaborative relationships with faculty, parents, and students.  I want to establish effective professional learning communities, not only within the school (if they're not already established) but between other small schools/ specialized programs in the district.
